About Me

Hi, I’m known as “Dr Nina” and my journey into nutrition started with my own health problems. Over the years I have been in pain and exhausted but my concerns were dismissed with “it is hard to be a mother of two” from my GP. I knew there must be better answers out there, so I used my scientific research background to find them.

I’m passionate about the science of nutrition and how to apply it to everyday life.

My Story

I’ve always had a passion for science and how certain compounds affect the human body, first qualifying in pharmacy, and then getting my PhD in Organic Chemistry (hence the ‘Dr.’ in my title). I had health issues since I was a child and wanted to know how medicine could help heal the human body.

Little did I know that I would have to take my knowledge even further to try and help uncover the root cause of my own symptoms after realising no amount of doctors visits or prescriptions would help me.

As a kid, I started to suffer my first symptom of severe gut pain that was diagnosed as ‘gastritis’ and given a bland diet until the pain went away. I know now that I probably had IBS, and the diet was not addressing the main cause.

After I moved to the UK, my health problems seemed to multiply. I soon developed a list of symptoms including chronic headaches, migraines, fatigue and severe body pain. For years I tried to find answers but was only given SSRIs from a doctor which gave me horrible side effects and made everything worse.

I found a private clinic that specialised in Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, and my lab tests showed I was deficient in many nutrients. Making changes to my diet, how I approached rest, and nutritional supplements helped to slowly improve my condition but I knew I had a long way to go.

Being a scientist, I was determined to find more answers and started to do my own research and realised that nutritional therapy was the foundation I really needed to heal.

In fact, my mother recommended I go back to school for nutritional therapy so in 2019 I started to train at ION.

The more I learned, the more I realised that I had all the symptoms of fibromyalgia and was finally officially diagnosed with it in 2021 through the NHS after insisting on more support. After thirteen years of suffering, I now had a way to target my research and find out what would help me the most.

Going back to school, and raising two kids is hard enough (even without fibromyalgia!) but I have continued to further my studies with an MSc in Clinical Nutrition from the University of Aberdeen.

I’m committed to keep researching and finding scientific answers about how to properly heal, using natural foods available to all of us, instead of medications that can often mask symptoms and also cause side effects.

My Approach

I believe healing can be found in natural solutions, but always take a scientific approach to investigating the underlying causes of symptoms.

Through my own journey, I’ve learned an enormous amount, and slowly have found out ways to change my diet and lifestyle, and what works for me in order to not slip back into being bedridden most days.

After a lot of investigations, I now know what works for me and know this level of research is important to find personal, natural and safe solutions for people. For example, I can nip a migraine in the bud using Epsom salt baths and an espresso instead of relying on heavy medications that often come with side effects.

From experience, I know that your supermarket is your pharmacy, your kitchen is your lab, and you can learn to be your own scientist and harness the healing power of food. I can help you create the best medicine for a strong, radiant, empowered you!
